Counselor for troubled girls charged with sexual assault Associated Press April 14 2006 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A city man was charged Thursday with sexually assaulting two girls who were in his care when he was a counselor at a shelter for troubled girls. Members of the Connecticut FBI Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force arrested Larry Johnson, 30, at his home. He was charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of impairing the morals of a minor, the Connecticut Post reported. Johnson was arraigned in Superior Court later Thursday. A judge set bond at $250,000 and continued the case for two weeks. Johnson was a counselor at the state-funded Community Solutions' Thorner Hall in Norwalk, which served teenage girls who were clients of the state Department of Children and Families. The Norwalk shelter was shut down and Johnson was fired after DCF learned about the allegations, agency spokesman Gary Kleeblatt said. A 17-year-old girl who lived at the shelter told police in July 2005 that Johnson forced her to have sexual intercourse at his home three times and made her perform oral sex, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. She also told authorities that Johnson took her and two other girls to his home in February 2005 when he was supposed to bring them to a nail salon. She said Johnson gave the girls marijuana to smoke and forced her to have sex, according to the affidavit. A 14-year-old girl complained last September that Johnson forced her to perform oral sex on him at the shelter and videotaped it, the affidavit said. Copyright 2006 Associated Press |
